St. Lucia spotted

165 Nm approximately to go.

ETA Saterday 11 december around 15:00 (GMT).

So 16:00 European Time.

165 Nm till St Lucia. And with an average of abou 150 Nm per 24 hours thismeans that Johan and Edith will arrive in St Lucia Saterday in the after noon. We had a message through the SY Antares in which they explained all was well with the SY Mignon. And Johan and Edith were looking for Tickets to the Netherlands. To spend the holiday season in Germay and the Netherlands with relatives and friends.

So we look forward to hearing a Live report on the journey real soon.

Half way

The latest update we saw on Internet is that the half way point was already reached. And Yesterday 5 december the distance to St Lucia was less than 1000 Nm.

The current status (on 6 december) is that there are still 750 Nm to go to St Lucia. In the logs from the other contenders we read that there is less wind. Conditions are fairly calm.

The first boats are already in St Lucia. After little more than 12 days the first contender entered the St Lucia harbour.

We keep in "contact" with the SY Mignon through the logs of other ships. Reading the logs from ships that are in positions near to the SY Mignon give a bit of a peek in the current (weather) situation.

So langsam wird es ernst mit der Überfahrt in die Karibik. Es dauert zwar noch ein paar Tage, aber wir müssen uns doch in unterschiedlichen Bereichen vorbereiten.

Von  Sizilien über Malta , Tunesien, Sardinien, Korsika, Balearen, Span. O-Küste, Gibraltar zu den Kanaren

Malta
Unser letzter Bericht schließt mit dem Versprechen, mehr über den Besuch von  Malta zu erzählen. Malta ist eben eine besonders geschichtsträchtige Insel. Das haben wir auch bei unserer Fahrt ins Inselinnere sehen können. Landschaftlich fehlten uns allerdings der Wald. Irgendwie kam uns die Insel kahl und karg vor, obwohl es viel Anbaugebiete gibt. Das Flair von Malta hoffte ich dann bei meinem Besuch des Hafenstädtchens Marsaxlokk zu finden. Auf vielen Bildern hatte ich die malerischen Fischerboote am Strand liegen sehen. Doch den Strand gibt es nicht mehr! Die Boote liegen an Ankerbojen im Hafenwasser. Der Strand ist einer Uferpromenade zu Opfer gefallen und darauf stehen Souvenirstände  oder das Gestühl der Restaurants. Wir haben uns dann die Insel nur noch von See aus angesehen und erst wieder in Camino, einer kleinen Insel zwischen Malta und Gozo in einer Bucht geankert. Das war dann unser letzter Stop vor dem Törn nach Tunesien.
